Couples Therapy

Couples therapy in English offers a space to look together at your relationship – both at what feels painful or difficult, and at what is still a source of closeness and connection. It is not about finding blame, but about building new ways of understanding each other and creating a more conscious way of being together. For expat couples in Barcelona, therapy can also be a space to explore the additional pressures that come with living abroad – such as adapting to a new culture, distance from family, or balancing different identities within the relationship.

In my work with couples I combine an integrative approach with systemic psychotherapy, and when helpful, also tools for regulating emotions and strengthening communication. I work with expat couples at different stages of their relationship – whether in a crisis or simply wanting to deepen their bond.

How does couples therapy work?
  • Sessions take place with both partners together.
  • We explore recurring patterns, especially in moments of conflict or emotional difficulty.
  • We focus on improving communication, rebuilding trust, and understanding each other’s needs and emotions.
  • The goal is for both partners to feel safe, heard, and valued in the relationship.
Couples therapy can help if:
  • communication has become difficult or conflictual,
  • you feel distance, coldness, or lack of intimacy,
  • you are facing a crisis – such as betrayal, loss, or major life changes,
  • your situation has shifted (e.g., having a child, moving in together) and you want to find new ways of functioning as a couple,
  • you want to deepen your relationship and strengthen mutual understanding.
You don’t need to wait until it feels like the “last chance” to begin therapy. All it takes is readiness to meet – with each other and with what in your relationship needs care and attention.
